Rozsutec on 31. 12. 2018

Early morning about 5 a.m. we (me and my friends) started from Štefanova. About 7 a.m. we achiebed the peak of Rozsutec. Sorry for not activating the SOTA. You can check very nice photos. More photos inside

Stoh OM/ZA-019 activation during Winter

Winter activation of Stoh OM/ZA-019. Only 4 QSOs because of very windy and temperature bellow zero - very very bad combination for activation. I had to stop after 4 QSOs, I could not feel my fingers. Nevertheless nice photos. More photos inside

SOTA SV/CR-029 (Timios Stayros) in Crete

During my holiday in Crete I successfully activated SV/CR-029 (Timios Stayros). Timios Stavros is not a high hill, but really not easy to get to the top. I had to climbed about last 100 metres. My recommendation to other activators is to choose another summit. Maybe somebody from Crete knows better path to the top. Many thanks for all QSOs. More photos inside

Very nice SOTA OM/ZA-045 during Winter

Quite nice weather during this Sunday. I activated OM/ZA-045 with my girlfriend. The first QSO with Igor OM3CUG was my pleasure. More photos inside

SOTA activation OM/ZA-036 Kľak

Very nice SOTA activation. I have activated Kľak for the first time. Quite good weather. Only very short activation because of too windy and cold on the top of Kľak. More photos inside

SOTA OM/ZA-013 Veľký Kriváň during winter

Firstly I planned to achieve OM/ZA-013 and OM/ZA-015, too. Too much fog, cold and crazy wind. After successful OM/ZA-013 activation a I tried to get OM/ZA-015. About 30 minutes before achieving Malý Kriváň - OM/ZA-015 I had to stop and go back. I could see only 3 meters ahead of me and the wind could get me down. It was too dangerous to finish. Sometimes you have to know when you should give it up. This unfinished activation was the craziest I have ever tried. I took only  some photos when there was not too much fog and clouds. SOTA Kriváň OM/PO-006

Firstly cold and misty, later sun and quite warm (during walking). Very nice SOTA activation with my friends. It was saturday and there were a lot of people trying to climb up the Kriváň. Quite difficult but very nice. Cumulative elevation gain more than 1100 m. More photos inside:

SOTA OM/ZA-066 & OK/ZL-039 alias Javorníky

Very nice and productive SOTA day with my friend Igor OM3CUG. We achieved Veľký Javorník OM/ZA-066 first and then Malý Javorník OK/ZL-039. Not too sunny, fresh temperature, a lot of clouds and quite windy - all perfect conditions for hiking. After SOTA activation we visited Rádioklub Manín during contest Poľný deň. SOTA OM/ZA-032 Minčol

I finished my next sota activation on 26th of February 2017. This was the first day of my ski holidays. Firstly I was skiing for 2 hours and after I make the activation. The weather was not good. It was too windy and temperature about -3°C. I had to find the lee of the peak. Anyway, I finished with 6 QSOs - the first one with Bohuš SP9MKM. First 3 photos are from SOTA, others from ski holidays.

Double SOTA OM/ZA-045 and SP/BZ-009

Another perfect day outdoor on 5th of February 2017. Not so good weather, but very nice double SOTA activation - Slovak SOTA OM/ZA-045 and Polish SOTA SP/BZ-009. Many thanks to Jakub om1ws for S2S QSO´s. More photos inside.

SOTA OM/ZA-029 Veľká lúka - Martinky

My first SOTA activation in 2017 (8th January) is Veľká lúka OM/ZA-029 locally known as Martinky. It was sunny but windy with temperature bellow zero. Activation finished on 2 m band FM. More photos inside.

SOTA OM/ZA-013 Veľký Kriváň

Perfect SOTA on 30. 12. 2016 with really nice weather and panoramic views. Many thanks to all stations for QSOs. What I really recomment during winter hiking is to use warm clothing. trekking poles and traction aids. One more thing is to use heating pads. More photos inside.

Only Hiking - Popradské pleso

Hike to Popradské pleso on 29th December 2016. Nice weather and temperature -12°C. But check that beauty. Just one imperfection - no SOTA possibility during that time. More photos inside. More photos inside.

SOTA Čipčie OM/ZA-105

On 5. 11. 2016 I activated probably my last SOTA on HF in 2016. Quite good weather but on the top too windy. There was so windy I almost could not hear anything from earphones conected to tcvr. More photos inside.

SOTA Veľký Rozsutec OM/ZA-017

I arranged climbe Veľký Rozsutec with my friend Stano on 23. 10. 2016. Weather perfect, not hot and sunny. On the top only about 0°C. A lot of panoramic view, really nice SOTA. We started from Štefanová throug Medziholie than to Rozsutec. After SOTA activation we decided to go back another path throug Jánošikove diery. Total distance about 13 km with cumulative elevation gain about 1100 m. More photos inside.

SOTA Veľká Rača OM/ZA-045 vs. Wielka Racza SP/BZ-009

Perfect hill for SOTA, because you can pick up double activation. I activated both of them several times during summer and winter, too. The most beautiful activation was during winter - about -10°C. Too cold to be there more than one hour, but just see photos. More photos inside.

SOTA OM/PO-001 Gerlachovský štít

On 4th of October 2015 I climbed the Gerlach peak - the highest peak in Slovakia. We started with my friends early morning. The hike began in Tatranská Polianka through Sliezky dom to Gerlach peak. At the beginning nice weather but later too cold, too windy and too foggy on the top of the peak. I activated SOTA with only 6 QSO´s. Because of bad weather we had to go down. Back way through Batizovské plesá. Total time 8,5 hours with cumulative elevation gain nearly 1700 m. More photos inside.

Following www.sota.org.uk SOTA is an award scheme for radio amateurs that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas.

I love SOTA because for me it is not only the award scheme. It is something what joins my love for hiking and radio amater operation. It is time I can spend with my friends during SOTA. It is nice panoramic view of the nature.  It is a beauty of our land, our nature, forests, hills etc.
